Data for ESY12MOCZ

The ESY12MOCZ is a 1-1/2" NPTF side ported, 3 position, spring centered, closed center spool, double solenoid operated valve with a twist locking solenoid override with externally pressurized solenoid valve and a side exhaust nut on the solenoid stem. The valve is controlled by a smaller 3/8" subplate style attached to the top of the larger valve. The spool is shifted by 50 to 150 psi external pilot air when the solenoid is energized. 50 to 150 psi must be maintained to the solenoid to keep the spool shifted while the coil is energized. The control spool is spring centered when both solenoids are de-energized. See additional information on solenoid valve operation. Coil is a 22mm wide coil with 18" lead wires. Standard voltage is 120/60, indicate other voltages (i.e. 12VDC, 24VDC, 240/60 etc.).

"E-Series" Operator - Twist Style Locking Override

This operator is equipped with a locking manual twist style override and a 1/8" NPT external pilot port. For external pilot operation, the internal pilot pressure must be blocked and the plug must be removed and external pilot source must be provided (150 psi maximum). All operators have internally threaded exhaust stems. The thread fits 10-32 UNF or 5mm-0.8 fittings. Solenoid operator is equipped with a locking manual override on the side of the solenoid structure. To activate manual override, twist the yellow lever clockwise to engage override. For replacement operators order ESPKO which is a V-599-1 operator and an EMG3 gasket (individual operator components are not available)

General - 1-1/2" & 2" Valve Operation

Normal assembly of all standard 1-1/2" & 2" valves is for internal pilot operation, in which the air pressure for shifting the large spool is internally tapped off the valve inlet. If the main spool is to handle pressures lower than 50 PSI or more than 150 PSI on solenoid models or from 50 to 250 psi on all other models, the valve should be factory ordered for "external pilot operation" by adding suffix "Z" after the regular model number. Or, the valve can easily be converted in the field to external piloting as described below. This pressure limitation applies to all 1-1/2" and 2" manual lever, solenoid, pilot or differential pilot valves.

Conversion to External Piloting: Remove the entire control valve from the main body and lay it aside. Install a 1/16"-27 NPT pipe plug in the treaded hole uncovered in the body mounting pad. Re-mount the control valve in the same orientation as before. Connect a pilot pressure air source (50 to 150 PSI on solenoid models and 50 to 250 psi on all other models) to the 1/4" NPTF external pilot port. This port is located on the side and near the top of the main body and stamped "EXT P", on the side opposite the MFC flow controls.

"E-Series" Nut - Side Exhaust

Side exhaust nut, part number V-562 reduces the noise and diffuses the solenoid exhaust. With this option the 10-32/5mm-0.8 tapped exhaust is inaccessible. To order standard solenoid valves with this nut, use option 'C' (e.g. ESY4C). For additional protection from dust/dirt incursion, use an O-Ring in the groove where the holes are located. The standard O-Ring size is AS-016, (ref 5/8 X 3/4 X 1/16) or order a V-565 Buna-N, 70 durometer O-Ring or V-411 Viton, 75 durometer O-Ring.

General - Installation & Maintenance

Valves should be installed with reasonable accessibility for service. Exercise care in keeping tubing lengths to a minimum. Plumbing should be free of contamination. Pipe joint compound should be used sparingly applied only to the thread, never the valve body. Over tightening of pipe threads can fracture the joint causing leaks or failure. Protect the valve from exposure to extreme temperatures, dirt and moisture to maximize life.

General - Lubrication, Standard

All valves are pre-lubricated at the factory using Magnalube-G Teflon based all purpose grease. Valves are suitable for, and perform best in a non-lube service. For long life, use an air line filter/lubricator installed no further than 10-ft. from the valve. The filter should be rated 25 pm or finer. Use a good grade of petroleum base lubricating oil no heavier than SAE 10W. DO NOT OVER-LUBRICATE. This could cause the spool to stick. CAUTION! Do not use questionable fluids in air line lubricators. Do not use petroleum oil with detergent additives. Detergents, volatile or aromatic fluids may swell rubber seals in valves and cylinders. Never use cooking or vegetable oil as a lubricant. When cleaning AAA valves after extended service, lubricate the valve spool with AAA high film strength grease, or, use O-ring grease which is usually available from supply houses which sell O-rings. Magnalube-G is included in all valve repair kits for proper valve maintenance. If an additional amount of Magnalube-G grease is required, a 0.75 ounce tube is available under part number VGK-3. Never use any kind of oil, cup grease, or automobile chassis lubricant.

The shelf life of Magnalube-G regularly lasts for 10+ year intervals in closed packaging due to the extremely long operating life of the Elastomer-PTFE gelling agent and premium parafiinic mineral base oil. If the valve is stored for over 2 years, then a small reapplication of grease is suggested.

An alternative grease for low temperature application, refer to Dow-55 grease.

General - O-Ring Information

Unless otherwise specified, all 1/4" and 3/8" soft seal valves come standard with Viton O-rings and all 1/2", 3/4", 1", 1-1/2" and 2" soft seal valves come standard with Buna-N O-rings. If a different material is required, use the dash numbers following the basic valve numbering code. For example, model RY3G-2 will have Silicone O-rings installed for a low temperature application. On valves larger than 1" consult factory on availability of O-ring materials. Additional O-ring material information.
Dash No.O-ring DescriptionTemperature Rating
-2Silicone-80°F to 400°F
-3Viton for most aromatic gases-20°F to 400°F, 600°F for short time
-7Urethane, 70 Durometer-65°F to 200°F
-9Buna-N-40°F to 250°F
We are constantly researching O-ring materials to evaluate performance and durability in the AAA valve product line. Above is a compilation of the most commonly requested O-ring materials and the associated dash number. If you have a particular application that requires an O-ring material that is not listed, please contact us. Since we utilize standard O-ring dimensions in our valves, we can respond to the most obscure O-ring material request.
